What shapes a good teacher?

What is the definition of a good teacher, how do students see the good teacher, and what are the top things that first pop in their minds when you say: “here’s a good teacher”… all of these are questions researchers have been attempting to answer for so long, but there was no clear unique single definition to what makes a teacher good enough, what they were able to get was a group of characteristics that are found in almost every good teacher. These characteristics include: having a good personality, cares about their students and their learning. Teachers should also be knowledgeable; when teachers have this trait, students tend to respect them more and focus more because they want to get their share from the teacher’s knowledge and from this respect teachers can force their students to be disciplined and to behave by certain rules they set in the classroom. Teachers must also be supportive, i.e. they should be able to help their students whenever they need them, and to have faith that they are able to accomplish the tasks required, last but not least, teachers should have different communication skills that allow them to reach their students the best, and finally teachers should promote creativity, help students to explore the world in their own way, and at last they should listen at all times to their students and make them feel that whatever they say is valued in the classroom, this will increase student’s involvement and decreases the chance of having them as management issues.

  1. I find the most important trait to be the teacher's personality. The teacher has the power to make her students more interested and engaged in the learning process if she builds a good relationship with her students. On the other hand, if she doesn't build a safe and warm environment, students will start behaving against the rules. As students, we all have that teacher who makes us unconsciously work harder to achieve better results because we enjoy taking classes with her.
Moreover, it's essential that a teacher be very knowledgeable in what she teaches, but to be a good teacher you should be knowledgeable and have a great personality.

  2. The belief that teachers can help all students learn, regardless of their backgrounds or abilities, is described as personal teaching efficacy. Teacher's personality and beliefs are very important in the way to be a good teacher. The good teacher should use time effectively and maximize learning, accept students and their ideas, use praise rather than criticism, keep trying when students have misconceptions, be more flexible and stay positive, adopt new curriculum materials, and change strategies more rapidly. Teachers have different characteristics and there is no clear definition of a good teacher, but in my opinion to be a good teacher you should have the characteristics I mentioned, also the teacher should serve as a good model for the students, care about them, and have positive expectations toward all of them.

  3. Nice topic Neal to post about it but is that whats happening in Lebanon or in our Neighbour countries the problem come from the bad background we have about education in general i think either from teachers side or students and parents. what attracted my attention is the communication skills that the teacher must have which is not found in the old staff of our schools

  4. "A best teacher" would have criteria that differ from one culture to another. The way we view teachers and the amount of respect we provide our teachers with do really vary from one person to another and from one place to another. No matter what are the experiences we pass through with our teachers, we still remember those who affected us either negatively or positively. My love to English was caused by my grade 9 English teacher. Her personality made me love English! She dealt with us in a very unique way. She was really my BEST teacher!

  5. I believe that the teacher's personality is what makes her a good teacher. Good teachers speak simply, they don't need to impress with their knowledge in other words good teachers are humble. Moreover, a good teacher is someone that can use patience with their students, and a good teacher is someone who is organized, loving, nurturing, creative, and enjoys helping others, a good teacher shows concern for her students, and also show them respect.
